Philosophy & Approach

Our mission as Christian educators and caregivers of young children is to give and teach the love of God to each child. At Cedar Mill Christ Preschool, we seek to provide an atmosphere in the classroom that helps us express through word and action that each child is a unique creation of God, special and loved by God, worthy of love, kindness and respect from others. While at Cedar Mill Christ Preschool, children are immersed in an educational, hands-on, fun environment that teaches God’s love in the creation of humankind and our world through literature, science, art, mathematics and dramatic play activities. These activities are also used to teach and model loving each other as families, friends, teachers and students.

Our Philosophy:

Cedar Mill Christ Preschool follows a developmentally appropriate curriculum as outlined by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Each child is encouraged to grow at his or her own pace through interaction with people and materials. Through this interaction, the children acquire the fundamental skills they need. Our preschool provides an environment that engages the children to grow socially, emotionally, physically and cognitively to the extent of their abilities and interest.

Our Approach:

We believe children learn and thrive in creative, active, hands-on experiences.  Our teaching centers provide opportunities for each child to explore concepts through their own individual learning style.  We teach letter and number recognition, phonics, math concepts, music appreciation, American history, world geography and cultures, art and basic science.

Social awareness and development is an important part of every element of our day.  Children enjoy stimulation social experiences as they pretend in our varying themed stations, including kitchen, baby doll care, big block center, giant Lego center, puppet theater, grocery store, space station, castle, hospital, fire station, pumpkin patch and camping play.

The physical health and growth of our children is important, so ample time is given each day to go outside for group games or to play on the playground equipment.  The covered play area is used on rainy days for sand play and ball games.
